UK hardcore band Tribute To Nothing were formed in February 1992 by brothers Ben (drums) and Jim Turner (vocals, bass) after 18 months of playing rock cover versions in a local pub band. They enlisted two school friends and their younger brother Sam on guitar, and 12 months later the band, slimmed down to a trio of the brothers, had acquired a sense of direction through regular appearances at the Mad Music Club in Worcester. Still in their teenage years they became the youngest band to play at London’s Mean Fiddler venue, having been spotted by rock photographer Martyn Goodacre, who released their first single on his Kinglake Records. For their second single, ‘24 Hrs’, in April 1995, Tribute To Nothing transferred to Free Records. Following dates with Sebadoh, they appeared at the Phoenix Festival, preceding the release of three further singles on Go! Discs, ‘Can’t Get Up’, ‘Think You Should’ and ‘Straight Line’. The band inaugurated their own Lockjaw Records label to facilitate the release of their music following the demise of Go! Discs, culminating with the release of their 1997 debut album, Wrench. Excellent studio albums have followed on a regular basis, while Lockjaw has gone on to confirm its rising status by signing new bands including Monkey Boy and Lockdown.
